Why sponsors chose FERC

“I salute and happily support the work FERC does in providing scholarships for needy students to finish high school. While it is popular for westerners to denigrate the Thai education system (I have not been immune to this myself) scholarships are the seeds of the future … some will fall on rocky ground and yield nothing. Once in a while, they will grow and produce great results … for themselves, their families, and the country.”

“Having been ‘in education’ all our lives, teachers at first and now considerably involved in advising international teachers and supporting international schools worldwide, we were very pleased to hear about FERC many years ago. There are hundreds of rural families here in the north of Thailand who recognize that continuing right through secondary school, even going on to university studies, is very much the right thing for their children – but who cannot afford the financial burden on the family that is unavoidable if their son or daughter presses on with studying rather than finding some kind of paid job as a teenager.

FERC’s system of close liaison with teachers in many dozens of schools, a system through which highly deserving and in-need students get to be identified and recommended for FERC assistance, works very well indeed. And the increasingly large team of volunteer committee members do a great job both in their work with the students helped by FERC and on the fund-raising side of things. A locally based organization run by energetic and committed volunteers who are residents of the region is far more financially efficient and effective than any major international charity ever can be. Every baht, every cent, every penny of donations to FERC goes directly to help a student in need, with (thanks to the volunteers) no siphoning off of ‘expenses’, indeed no administrative costs whatsoever.

We are very happy to have been able to support FERC and thus to have helped many delightful and hard-working students.”

Having family in northern Thailand, we’re frequently in the region and have witnessed the profound challenges faced by some local families. We are fortunate to be in a position to provide help through the efforts of exceptional charities like FERC.

The COVID-19 pandemic further highlighted the difficulties that some children face, as regrettably, our student was forced to discontinue her education in order to provide support for her family. Every child deserves the opportunity to complete their senior education, and this situation has only reinforced our commitment to assisting those in need. The partnership with Myriad makes it easier for us to continue supporting the invaluable work FERC does in making a tangible, meaningful impact on the futures of Thai children.
